40 Day Breakfast Challenge Post to Win!

40 Day Breakfast Challenge

40 Day Breakfast Challenge…

My Nana used to call my brother and I “breakfast clubbers”. I have no idea what that means but I suspect that it had something to do with the fact that we liked to eat breakfast. Apparently, a breakfast clubber is a pretty distinguished title.

I’ll bet that at some point in your life you’ve heard someone say “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”? Blah blah blah. It’s an obnoxious phrase, but it’s true. Eating breakfast is a wise choice for many reasons. Unfortunately, many people choose to skip breakfast for one reason or another.

Over the next 40 days I would like to challenge you to eat breakfast each day. Aside from feeling better, having more energy, and a faster metabolism, you can enter to win a $100 gift card to Whole Foods.

How it works:

  • I will post a quick and healthy breakfast each day for the next 40 days (until the end of 2009) November 21, 2009-December 30, 2009
  • Eat something for breakfast each day then post a comment each day on the featured breakfast telling us what you ate for breakfast that day.
  • At the end of 40 days (December 31, 2009) I will select a winner – a new breakfast clubber. The winner will be chosen at random from a list of subscribers. The winner will be an email subscriber who posted what they ate for breakfast each day for the 40 days. If you miss a day, just go back and post what you had to eat on that day.
  • On January 1, 2010, I will contact the winner via email and send the $100 gift card to Whole Foods.
  • That’s it.
  • Any questions please email me at keepyourdietreal(at)gmail(dot)com

What did you eat for breakfast this morning?

coffee + whole wheat bagel and pumpkin butter!

(corrine, I’m going to win as I am also a die-hard breakfast clubber!!)

    cheers,
    kellyn

  2. Kristine says:

Today I had 1/2 of a flaxseed bagel with low-fat cream cheese (office supplies bagels on Fridays), an apple and a hard-boiled egg!

  3. Kara H says:

Large raspbery yogurt (organic, of course) and french vanilla hot coffee with extra skim milk (not good at all, thank you Dunkin Donuts). May we comment on other people’s breakfasts? For example, I’d like to question Kristine’s choice of a flaxseed bagel. Yuck.

  4. I had two peices of cinnamon raisin ezekiel bread with butter and raw honey.

  5. ooh and a french press coffee with cane sugar and organic half and half

  6. Hi Kara! Why was the coffee so bad? Commenting on other breakfast posts is permissible. However, for the record these comments should be “friendly” in nature. I have been known to throw down some serious smack. Fortunately, I know a good lawyer ;)

  7. Hi Kristine! That free work breakfast sounds awesome. I’ve never had a flaxseed bagel. Flax is so good for the joints.

  8. Howdy Colin! Raw honey is an absolute gift from God.

  9. Hi Kellyn,
I would also like to try the pumpkin butter. I have a feeling that we are all going to get a lot of great breakfast ideas from each other over the next 40 days. I believe that you are a die-hard breakfast clubber. I remember our scrumptious Saturday morning waffle breakfast at Flagler. mmmm….waffles.

  10. andrea says:

It may be odd but there wasn’t much selection in the house and I had to eat! So… I had a cup of verde chicken chili, of which I still don’t think is ‘chili’ when it’s just vegetables with chicken…

I can’t wait to see the daily postings, my breakfast ideas are lacking!

  11. Audra says:

Organic vanilla yogurt with organic blueberries – mmmmm

  12. Tracy says:

Banana and a Pumpkin Spice coffee from Dunkin Donuts :) Disappointed that they didn’t have the mocha mint yet though.

  13. Divina says:

Today I had a buckwheat porridge with ground mixed seeds and honey. I would love to win the certificate but I don’t think I can even use it if I’m living in the Philippines. But this is a good idea. Some people don’t even know what to eat for breakfast. Knowing what other people eat would give us an idea of what else to eat and recommend.

  14. Tia Forgetta says:

Nov. 20… Kellogg’s chocolate chip breakfast bar, I know boring but I was in a rush!
Nov. 21st… Cinnamon Iced coffee (home brewed) and a smoothie made with milk, yogurt, frozen berries, and ice. Mmmmm!

  15. Kel says:

Nov 20 I had oatmeal with ground flaxseed and a tablespoon of peanut butter as well as a clementine.

    Love the idea!

  16. Larry L says:

Had a 20oz soda and a croissant sandwich with a sausage patty, eggs and brie. I’m about 5 minutes away from eating a chocolate croissant…

  17. I ate eggs scrambled with raw cheese and mushrooms. I have to ask…are you going to come up with a new breakfast recipe each day? If so, Wow!! I don’t think I could do it! :) This is a fun contest! Carrie

  18. Ok, I am SERIOUSLY going to be an added source of entertainment in this thread…not only am I not a breakfast clubber, I think lately because of the workaholic-ness I am a CRAP clubber. Today’s breakfast (as with the breakfast of the past 8 days) has been Strawberry Pop-Tarts and Coke Zero. Can you believe I actually lost 3 pounds on this plan??? It’s an accident. And humiliating.
I will try to do better now that I know I have to be accountable to someone.
Oh. Include my sister on this plan if you haven’t already, she loves talkin about this kinda stuff: rosanne.izzo@simmons.edu
    hmmm… where’s a snack bag when you need one…

  19. can we do lunch too?
    four more pop tarts.
    yummy & evil.

  20. Courtney says:

Did we need to leave something for November 20th too?? I had a cinnamon crumpet with honey roasted peanut butter.

  21. Simply Life says:

I love breakfast more than any other meal – haven’t had it yet today, but I’m planning on some oatmeal with almonds, blueberry and banana!

  22. Shams says:

Hi, 1 day late, but interested to post nonetheless even if not eligible for the prize.
Today I ate a bowl of cornflakes with full fat milk and a spoon of white sugar, and a plain bagel, one half layered with Boursin cheese and the other smoothed over with Lurpak and topped with a fried egg (the yolk split on cracking though:().
And now I am having a coffee with double cream and sugar.
Did it have to be healthy brekkie or just brekkie?

  23. Sheila says:

Yesterday I had a scrambled egg with shredded cheddar, two slices of turkey bacon on a biscut and coffee.(11/21/09)

Today I had one cinnamon pancake with syrup, and oolong tea.

  24. Hi Shams, thanks for posting. Just breakfast will do. No judgment here. :)

  25. Stephanie, I am so glad that you are doing this. Just breakfast will do but your lunches are equally entertaining. :)

  26. Hi Carrie, thanks so much! I’m glad that you are a part of this contest. Yes, I will be posting a new breakfast each day for 40 days. It is a big challenge for me too, but I’m excited about it. :)

  27. Hi Courtney! So glad that you are a part of this contest! No you did not have to post on 11/20 but many people did when I announced the contest. 11/21 is actually day #1! But that’s ok :)

  28. Emily says:

Today I had some whole grain bread gilled with smart balance with a fried egg, slice of cheese and slice of pepper ham sandwiched in-between. All about the savory breakfasts right now! Oh ya, and some Trader Joe’s coffee with light cream and just a touch of sugar.

Yesterday (11/21) I had 2 slices of homemade whole wheat beer bread toasted with smart balance and a slice of cheese wrapped up with a slice of pepper ham. Hmmm…there seems to be a trend here for me. :) Hope your well Corrine!

not trying to win palps, but, we went to this place in town and had eggs, with homefries, ham, and pancakes…by the way a breakfast of that caliber will hinder your ability to operate heavy machinery

  31. What a wonderful challenge. This morning I had a smoked salmon omelette with cream cheese, capers, and field greens accompanied by coffee and a slice of whole wheat toast. Weekends are when I splurge, and breakfast is most definitely my favorite meal.

  32. Carrie R says:

Today’s breakfast was extra tasty. I cooked up some cubed potatoes, onions and garlic in olive oil. I divided that between a couple plates, and topped each with an egg (over easy), homemade pico de gallo and some avocado.

Another breakfast that I’m loving lately, and that is much quicker to make than above, is to cook down some blueberries (or any berry, for that matter) in a saucepan on medium/med low heat for about 10 min. While that’s cooking, make some oatmeal. Top the oatmeal with the berries, some walnuts and some honey and cinnamon.

  33. Shams says:

Yesterday I ate several slices of sweet, juicy conference pear, and then 2 small packets of chocolate mini digestives and a cup of tea – really nice.
Today I had a bowl of cornflakes………again. I think I’ll need some inspiration for tomorrow.

  34. Noelle says:

It was my hubby’s birthday today, so I know what we ate. A bowl of steel cut oats with raisins and chopped apples with pomegranate arils and a strawberry/blueberry smoothie.

  35. Shams says:

Noelle, I think we were supposed to reply on the link for the correct day of the challenge, see here (I’ll have to move my reply there too):
